There are 2 techniques used in hair transplantation; Follicular Unit Transplant (FUT) technique and Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) technique, sometimes referred to as DHI.

In the FUT technique, a linear incision is drawn from a donor hair site, usually on the occipital or bottom-back side of the head and hair grafts are taken from there and transplanted to the target hair site. This usually leaves a thin scar that can be easily hidden.

The more advanced technique is the FUE/ DHI technique. Instead of creating a linear incision, an implanter pen that features a hollow needle connected to a tube and plunger device is used to extract hair grafts from donor sites and transplanted to the target hair site. Hence, there will be less post-operative donor-site pain & no linear scars on the patient’s head.
